O’ Merry Day!!

The day has finally come when I was not rejected as a blood donor!!! The past three times I have made the trek to give blood they have had to reject me because my iron was too low to be a donor.
Thursday, with my head held high, I marched in to give blood. I was feeling pretty confident seeing as I had been taking iron supplement pills two times a day.
So, they stick my right hand ring finger and take a swipe of my red blood, to put in their little machine that reads my iron level. As the door on the machine closed I waited in anticipation of the number popping up on the meter being over 12.7. What a nail bitter, and then a flash of numbers appeared on the screen… 12.6! Are you flipping kidding me?!?! Arrrggghhhhh. So angry. Luckily in the world of blood donation you get two chances to get a reading above 12.7 on your iron. Well, I was still feeling confident about my right hand having more iron then my left. Don’t ask me why, I just had “a feeling.”. So, the technician prepped my right hand middle finger for the pricking. She swiped my blood on the stick, put it in the machine and closed the door. I waited, not so much in anticipation but pure angst!! And then the most glorious number I have ever encountered
popped on the screen… 13.3! This meant I was street legal to donate my blood to those in need.
I donated with no issues, drank my Gatorade, ate my Sunchips and left
much fulfilled! It was a good day.
